In this scholarly dissertation the author has made a comparative study of church and state laws concerning Christian (Catholic) marriages. The work is divided into 3 parts. In Part I, he studies the law of marriage in Canon Law (1983 code) and in Civil Law: the Christian Marriage Act of 1872 and the Special Act of 1954. In Part II, he deals with matrimonial reliefs according to Canon and Civil laws, breakdown of marriage and the way to obtain reliefs such as maintenance, custody of children, etc. Citations of decided cases at the Supreme Court and at the High Courts in India are given as concrete examples of marital reliefs. Part III consists of a juridical evaluation.
